Important: RARE Program particpant placements for year 2008-2009 are contingent on availability of program funding.
Timeline
Below is the anticipated schedule for placement of 2008-2009 RARE members. Please note that the participants will begin their service in early October of 2008.
RARE Community Application and Placement Schedule:
- April 15: Pre-applications due to RARE office by 5:00 PM
- April 16 - May 14: RARE staff site visit to communities
- May 21: Invitations to submit full application Announced
- June 21: Full applications due to RARE office by 5:00 PM
- August 4-11: Community/member interviews
- August 22: Final placement decisions made
- October 1-3: Member orientation
- October 6: Placement in RARE communities begins

Selection Process and Criteria
Community applications should demonstrate the following points clearly:
- A clear community need for a RARE participant;
- A high probability of developing and implementing successful community projects, i.e what is the project readiness;
- A community and organization which is supportive of the RARE placement;
- A qualified and committed supervisor appointed to work with the member as a mentor;
- Valuable learning experiences identified for the member; and
- A clear manageable workplan.

The following items are required to complete your application.

RARE host communities or agencies receive:
- A RARE participant who will live in or near their community and provide 11 months (1,700 hours) of community service on a predetermined workplan;
- The community and participant can access support services from a team of six planning/policy analysts;
- RARE staff will conduct regular community site visits and evaluation to ensure satisfaction by the community and member growth and development.
