Important: RARE Program particpant placements for year 2009-2010 are contingent on availability of program funding.

Timeline

Below is the anticipated schedule for placement of 2009-2010 RARE members. Please note that the participants will begin their service in late September of 2009.

RARE Community Application and Placement Schedule:

• April 15: Pre-applications due to RARE office by 5:00 PM
• April 16 - May 22: RARE staff site visit to communities
• May 22: Invitations to submit full application Announced
• June 26: Full applications due to RARE office by 5:00 PM
• July 27-31: Community/member interviews
• August 14: Final placement decisions made
• September 16-18: Member orientation
• September 21: Placement in RARE communities begins

Selection Process and Criteria

Community applications should demonstrate the following points clearly:

• A clear community need for a RARE participant;
• A high probability of developing and implementing successful community projects, i.e what is the project readiness;
• A community and organization which is supportive of the RARE placement;
• A qualified and committed supervisor appointed to work with the member as a mentor;
• Valuable learning experiences identified for the member; and
• A clear manageable workplan.

In addition, RARE has identified the following programmatic goals for 2009-2010:

• Community capacity building;
• Volunteer engagement; and
• Partnering with community and faith-based organizations.

  While not required, applications that indicate that the participant will be involved in one or more of these activities will receive special preference.
