Organization: Oregon Coast Visitors Association (OCVA) South Coast
Serves: Coos and Curry Counties

Meet Liz Gronert:

Liz studied both Environmental Science and Anthropology at the University of Iowa. During her time there, she studied abroad in Belize, worked on a native landscaping project with Iowa Dept. of Transportation, captained the ultimate Frisbee team, got two minors and a certificate alongside her majors, and spent time volunteering in the community.

Community and Organization:

Like much of rural Oregon, the South Coast was originally dependent on the natural resource extraction economy. Today many city’s economies rely heavily on tourism. The Oregon Coast Visitors Association is the regional destination management organization for the Oregon Coast. They partner with local destination marketing organizations, businesses, municipalities, and agencies along the coast on behalf of the Oregon Tourism Commission. OCVA’s mission is to inspire tourism on the Oregon Coast by actively promoting the coast as a premier travel experience.

Project:

The OCVA South Coast RARE, Liz Gronert, will continue to support existing tourism destination development initiatives as well as create and lead new projects. This will be Liz’s second year of service for the Oregon Coast Visitors Association on the South Coast. She will focus on community driven initiatives based in outdoor recreation, signature events, culinary and agritourism related opportunities. Liz will continue to gain valuable experience in volunteer coordination and leadership, rural economic development, researching and writing grants, creating promotional materials, marketing, and community outreach.
