Meet Emma Vallillo:

Emma studied Geography with a concentration in Urban and Regional Planning at SUNY College at Oneonta. Before coming to Oregon for RARE, she worked for the Town of Brookhaven, NY Planning Department and shadowed the principle planner, gaining invaluable experience in planning and local government. 2018-2019 will be her 2nd RARE year with the City of Coburg, where she played an integral role in the Coburg Golden Years Festival.

Community and Organization:

Founded in 1847 and located just 11 miles north of the rapidly growing cities of Eugene and Springfield, the historic City of Coburg has successfully retained many characteristics of a traditional small town. The City is known for its historic and attractive downtown, agricultural business connections, antique shops, and annual events. With close ties to the surrounding farming communities and a walk-able downtown including 30 buildings on the National Historic Register, the City of Coburg has actively worked to maintain important aspects of its heritage.

Project:

The RARE member, Emma Vallillo, will wear many hats for the City of Coburg. Emma has opportunities to learn day-to-day planning duties, work on Coburg’s Main Street Program and assist local non-profits. As the RARE serving Coburg last year, Emma helped to implement the City’s Visioning project as they moved into the strategic action plan phase and coordinated the Revival of Coburg Golden Year Festival. This year, Emma will help with Comprehensive Plan updates, staff the Heritage Committee, and continue to engage community groups to work together on Visioning project goals.
