Gathering puts focus on revitalization in Milton-Freewater

Experts from across the country will converge in Milton-Freewater next week to help focus local revitalization efforts.

The Milton-Freewater Downtown Alliance said Tuesday it is working with Oregon Main Street coordinator Sheri Stuart to bring a Resource Team to the community next Tuesday through Thursday.

The group has been selected specifically for Milton-Freewater’s needs, said Alina Launchbaugh, the alliance’s program director.

Before arriving, the trio of experts will complete background research so that they can use their time efficiently on the ground here. The first couple of days will include tours of the area and meetings with organizations and community groups. Their final day will be spent compiling research and presenting recommendations at a 6 p.m. community meeting Thursday at the Community Building. The presentation is open to the public.

The expert team includes Hilary Greenberg, Charlotte, N.C., who will focus on business recruitment and retention; David Daugherty, a landscape architect from Eugene, Ore., who will work on a cohesive consumer experience along North and South Main Street; and Chicago resident Kathy LaPlante, a senior program associate with the National Main Street Center who will provide assistance with promoting the community.
