What is Food Systems work?
Food is an essential need for all communities and the systems that generate and distribute food are increasingly complicated. The RARE Program brings assistance to rural communities, supporting planning and implementation of innovative food systems that sustainably serve the needs of local communities, from producer to plate.
Examples include:
- Facilitating and developing community food assessments and tribal food sovereignty assessments
- Enhancing local farmers’ markets and food related business activities
- Conducting community engagement and outreach regarding nutrition and local food sourcing
- Developing regional agritourism food trails
