Meet Mikayla Slawosky (she/her):

Mikayla was born and raised in Redmond, OR, and graduated from the University of Oregon in June 2023 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Planning, Public Policy, and Management. She has a background in agriculture, strategic planning, leadership, and advocacy. Coming from a family and background in agricultural work, Mikayla is very eager to expand her passion, knowledge, and experience during her time in Dallas. She is deeply grateful for all of the work that local producers put into feeding our communities and nurturing the land, and she hopes to impart some of the excitement and admiration into the Dallas community. In her free time, Mikayla enjoys spending time outdoors and engaging in all things art. She is looking forward to exploring these interests in a new setting.

Community and Organization:

Dallas, OregonThe Polk County seatis nestled in the luscious and bountiful Mid-Willamette Valley alongside the foothills of the Coastal Range. With its many scenic parks, gorgeous sights, and close proximity to a number of unique communities, Dallas has notoriously preserved its small town character.

Mikayla’s work is taking place within the Economic and Community Development department of The City of Dallas. The City of Dallas is committed to supporting people and businesses, while providing a safe, welcoming, and livable community. Her presence in the community is additionally supported by the Dallas Area Chamber of Commercethe local business support and advocacy non-profitand the Dallas Downtown Association, the local chapter of the Main Street America program focused on place-based economic development.

Projects:

Mikayla is leading the effort to build community capacity to recreate a sustainable farmers market and expand its agri-business sector. Through compiling resources to assist the residents and producers alike to gain more understanding of the crucial role that farms play in our community, she will develop and test strategies for the region to work together to improve the community returns of the agri-business sector and develop her findings into an informative handbook.
