This week the city of Canby’s Economic Development Department launches the Canby Business Survey. The survey will study the business environment in Canby and inquire about current challenges that business owners are facing.
The goal of this project is to give business owners the chance to help the Economic Development Department understand their needs, preference, and concerns.
“The more responses we receive and the richer information we obtain, the better we can serve our business community with enhanced resources and development strategies,” said Mariah Dodson, community outreach specialist with the city.
New this year, in an effort to encourage more business owners to participate in the survey, the Economic Development Department is offering an incentive program.
“When a business owner returns their survey, their name will go into a drawing for the chance to win a prize or gift card from a local business valued at $10 or more,” said Dodson.
The city will accept survey responses until March 20.
The city conducts this survey every three years.
“This survey gives us the opportunity to check in with the business community and track how the business climate is changing over time,” said Dodson. “We are asking some of the same questions as we did three years ago, but also have some new focus areas to reflect the current atmosphere in Canby.”
Economic Development Director Renate Mengelberg said that “In general, businesses have been consistently positive about Canby, even in relatively tough times. The business climate has certainly changed in the last three years and it will be fascinating to hear what businesses are thinking now. The information from past surveys was valuable in setting policy, refining programs, and setting priorities so that our efforts meet the changing needs of our businesses.”
The results will be presented to the Canby City Council. An analysis of the survey will be used by the Economic Development Department to guide future development strategies and business assistance efforts.
