Lakeview Community Partnership (LCP) is currently studying the feasibility of reopening the Alger Theater and is seeking volunteers to help move the process along.
There is a current need for individuals who would like to contact “sister theaters” and have conversations with key staff. Sister theaters are theaters that share similarities with the Alger in terms of age and community that they serve, explained LCP’s Will Wright. By reaching out to the staff of these theaters, LCP hopes to gain insights into the potential pitfalls and opportunities that are part of operating a historic, rural theater.
Volunteers interested in contacting a sister theater will be provided contact information for the theater, as well as guidance on the topics and questions for the conversation. They would be expected to take notes on the conversation and report their findings back to LCP staff. Most conversations should take between 45 minutes to an hour.
Wright, who is coordinating the feasibility study, estimated that all of the conversations with sister theaters will be completed by mid-January. Once they are completed, LCP will launch the next phase of the study, which will be a survey of potential theater-goers. Wright is hoping to contact over 1,000 households by phone to better understand what programming the community wants to support. To reach this goal, LCP will need help making calls and administering the survey. Volunteers would begin in late January and be able to work from their own homes or offices and on their own schedules.
