Meet Jeff Malik:

Jeff grew up in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Tennessee and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Dayton. Jeff has lived in communities in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and Ohio working on conservation, environmental education, and regional capacity-building.  His projects have included bicycle trail development, rain barrel installation, and teaching kayaking, and there is a special place in his heart for rivers.  Since moving to Oregon, Jeff has been exploring the state by foot, kayak, or bicycle.

Community and Organization:

The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (ODRC) is a collaborative organization made from different groups that use the Oregon Dunes for recreation, have businesses that rely on the dunes, or work to preserve the dune habitat. The collaborative includes tribal nations, politicians, non-profits, volunteers, county, state, and federal agencies. The Collaborative seeks to restore the famous Oregon Dunes to their original state. Since the 1940’s, European Beach Grass and human development has been encroaching on the dunes, slowly decreasing their surface area on the Oregon Coast.

Project:

The RARE participant, Jeff Malik, will add immediate capacity to ODRC by serving as a coordinator. He will help build capacity within the ODRC group, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the collaborative into the future. This includes social media outreach, newsletter templates, an organized and robust mailing list, a calendar of volunteer activities, slide show presentations that can be used by collaborative members at various speaking engagements, and helping expand the collaborative group to a broader base of active members who support the organization’s activities and objectives.
