Parks and trails are an important resource for improving the livability of a city. These outdoor areas provide the public with a safe place for recreation, relaxation and enjoyment, and connect individuals to their community. St. Helens is home to 134.9 acres of designated park land, which includes 14 public parks.
In the spring of 2012, the City applied for and received a grant from the Ford Family Foundation to hire a Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) AmeriCorps member. RARE member Jenny Dimsho was selected. She started work at St. Helens City Hall in September 2013 for an 11-month assignment that includes updating the City’s existing Parks Plan and incorporating trails into the plan in order to create a final product: a City of St. Helens Parks and Trails Master Plan.
