Meet Sulwyn De Crozuc (she/her):

Sulwyn was born and raised in the capital of Oregon, Salem, but received her entire K-12 education in Woodburn, a smaller more rural town up north. Sulwyn recently graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in Public Policy, Planning, and Management (PPPM) and a minor in Environmental Studies. She especially enjoyed learning about transportation planning and design, emphasizing sustainability and non-car-centric infrastructure implementation. This passion was solidified after Sulwyn had the opportunity to study abroad and learn about bicycle transportation systems from the top cycling cities in the world! In her free time, Sulwyn enjoys baking pies from scratch, listening to Chappell Roan, exploring the coastline, and spending time with her cat Toby.

Community and Organization:

Bandon is a charming coastal community on the southern Oregon coast. Within the city limits, there are roughly 3,800 residents, but the greater Bandon area reflects a population closer to 7,500. Nestled between the Coquille River and the Pacific Ocean, Bandon found its footing as a community through logging, fishing, and using the Coquille River to transport goods easily inland. Nowadays, the community’s main economic driver is the tourism industry. These include world-renowned golf courses, gorgeous beaches to explore, amazing shops in Old Town, and more! There is an unfortunate history of fire in Bandon, with two major fires in the early 1900s burning down most of the original structures. Preserving the city’s original charm and character after the fires is something that Bandon is still working towards to this day. The City of Bandon’s planning department is conducting projects to supplement the long-term planning goals of Bandon.

Projects:

Sulwyn will be working on two major projects for the City of Bandon in her role as a planner in the planning department at City Hall. The first project involves updating the Citizen Involvement Plan (CIP), as outlined in Oregon Land Use Planning Goal 1. Identifying the most effective modes of two-way communication for the entire community is crucial for this updated CIP.

The second project is an update to the Architectural Review Overlay (ARO) Zone for Old Town Bandon. The current design guidelines are vague and uninspiring, leaving business owners eager for refreshed standards for their facades. The key element of the ARO zone is to preserve the essential design elements that characterize Old Town, honoring its history while integrating modern design features, such as vibrant colors.

In addition to these major projects, Sulwyn will assist the Greater Bandon Association’s (GBA) economic vitality committee with updates to their facade loan program and applications for Main Street revitalization grants. She will also help update the master plan for City Park to identify improvements over the next 5 to 10 years.
