Meet Ann Moorhead:

Ann was born and raised in Beaverton, Oregon. After recently graduating with a B.S. in Planning, Public Policy, and Management from the University of Oregon, Ann is gathering experience with many different kinds of planning to determine her future steps. Ann enjoys exploring, trying new things, and collecting stories; she believes anything can be an adventure with the right mindset. Ann looks forward to discovering new adventures in The Dalles!

Community and Organization:

The Dalles is the heart of the Columbia Gorge. Located midway down the Columbia River, The Dalles is centrally located between Portland, Eastern Oregon, Mt. Hood, and Bend. As one of the oldest cities in Oregon, it holds an abundance of history including a historical commercial building erected in 1867, and City Hall built in 1908. Although this small town has completed many innovative projects, such as establishing a downtown-wide public Wi-Fi system, over the years some of these projects have been left on the back burner. In conjunction with RARE, however, the City of The Dalles is looking to revisit some of these projects and push the community to new heights.

Projects:

Ann is working on four separate projects, three for the City of the Dalles and one for the Chamber of Commerce. To benefit the City, she is addressing the effectiveness of their public downtown Wi-Fi system while exploring options to enhance its ability to meet community needs; conducting an audit on the energy efficiency of their public facilities and crafting an improvement plan; and revitalizing the Waldron Drug building, the oldest commercial building in the city, by digitally restoring it’s “ghost signs” (i.e., faded historical advertising signs). To support the Chamber, she is taking inventory of the City’s tourism assets and conducting research on how to maximize them in order to increase tourism.
