Meet Alexi McHugh:
As an undergrad, Alexi studied Health, Promotion, Education & Behavior at the University of South Carolina-Columbia. He also received his Master in Public Health- Health Policy from George Washington University. With a passion for the outdoors and land stewardship, Alexi hopes to apply his public health background to an environmentally focused organization in the future.
Community and Organization:
Eastern Oregon Healthy Living Alliance works to improve community health and support attainment of the highest level of health for all people in Eastern Oregon by engaging Community Advisory Councils and other partners and leveraging resources to implement strategies. EOHLA staff and board use an equity lens when developing strategies to address regional health priorities, including identifying disparities that relate to regional health issues and developing strategies to achieve equity within those regional health issues.
Project:
The RARE participant, Alexi McHugh, will serve as Program Coordinator with Eastern Oregon Healthy Living Alliance’s (EOHLA) Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Program. Alexi will conduct a social marketing campaign to increase fruit and vegetable consumption with Latino moms in Malheur, Morrow, and Umatilla Counties. Social marketing activities will include organizing focus groups and 15-25 key stakeholder interviews. He will also work to increase physical activity of community members through the Hike it Baby program, a national program that supports getting families outside with children. He will recruit volunteers, identify and develop leaders, organize hikes, and help create a volunteer led hiking group. Alexi will also support outreach and communications with social media content, updating and maintaining the website, and developing a newsletter.
