Meet Alice Jones (she/her/hers):

Alice graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s of Global Studies and a minor in Sustainability. Alice is passionate about unifying people and encouraging others’ uniqueness to shine through. Alice’s ambition is to preserve this beautiful world for future generations to thrive in. She strives to provide the opportunity for future generations to fully experience and appreciate other cultures and nature. Academically, Alice intends to pursue her Master’s Degree in Community & Regional Planning at the University of Oregon. Personally, Alice enjoys exploring the outdoors with friends, frequenting local coffee shops, animal watching, and creating eco-friendly crafts.

Community and Organization:

The Siskiyou Field Institute (SFI) is a nonprofit situated on 850 acres of woods, streams, and rare serpentine geology. It is located in a global hotspot of plant and animal biodiversity, making it an incredible and wild place to provide environmental education to students of all ages. SFI is located in a rural area struggling with some of the highest child poverty rates in Oregon. SFI’s mission is to provide immersive ecology and science learning, community networking, and social-emotional skills to connect our students to this wild place and in turn, help them form strong bonds with the land and their community.

Project:

Alice will spearhead an outdoor school curriculum overhaul with support from the Executive Director and Youth Coordinator (a year 27 RARE service member). Similarly, Alice will help to coordinate and lead SFI’s new curriculum orientation in the spring. Alice will lead the development of a high school mentorship program that is aimed to alleviate this area’s need for youth organizations that provide social networking, mentoring, and educational opportunities outside of school. Lastly, Alice will also develop a regional nature passport designed to connect the abundant resources of the Illinois Valley and provide recreational and leisure opportunities for locals and visitors alike. Alice is especially excited for the opportunity to grow as a project manager while working on projects with an array of topics, all while exploring the wondrous Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion.
