Meet Emme Shoup (she/her/hers):

Emme graduated Summa Cum Laude from Portland State University with a B.S. in Community Development. While at PSU, she studied abroad in the Peruvian Andes where she got a certification in Permaculture Design. Her studies focused in sustainable land use, public health, and urban design. In the future she hopes to promote public health and community-building through placemaking public spaces. In her free-time, she enjoys being active and making art.

Community and Organization:

Sisters is a quaint town of 3,003 residents and serves 10,000 periphery residents within the Sisters School District. It is located at the foot of the Three Sisters mountains, its namesake, where Highway 20 cuts straight through the heart of downtown heading west another half-hour drive to Bend and Redmond, Oregon. With the downtown’s charming western-theme, folk and arts scene, urban amenities, beautiful rural landscape and close proximity to year-round outdoor recreational opportunities – it’s no wonder that Sisters’ population has tripled in the last 15 years. The City of Sisters is the local government entity with only 17.5 full-time employees that support city limits’ water, sewers, and streets, with additional projects to continue making Sisters a prosperous, livable, resilient, and connected town to live, work, and visit.

Project:

As the Assistant Community Engagement & Program Coordinator, Emme Shoup worked as a conduit between the community and the City of Sisters throughout the planning process of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update, the implementation of the 2018 Sisters Country Vision, and cultivating Sisters’ first Tourism Strategic Plan. Emme was responsible for supporting community engagement with the Sisters community; presenting about the Comprehensive Plan and Vision projects to local organizations, boards, and businesses; fostering partnerships between the City and local businesses; assisting in grant writing and research; survey development and analysis; and conducting community outreach through website management, social media, newspaper articles, and visual products.
