Meet Hannah Fuller:

Hannah recently graduated from Cornell University with a dual-BS in Plant Sciences and International Agriculture & Rural Development, with a minor in Community Food Systems. She spent the last 8 years away from Oregon going to school in New Hampshire and New York, and is thrilled to be back in her home state to serve with the RARE Program in The Dalles. You can usually find her on a run in the Gorge, deep in a new book, or getting in the dirt in her garden.

Community and Organization:

This placement is based out of The Dalles (pop. 15,276), which has played an economic and cultural role in the Pacific Northwest for millennia. A major trading post on the Columbia River, it was also a campsite for Lewis and Clark and stop on the Oregon Trail. It’s now the second largest city on the Oregon side of the Columbia River and the seat of Wasco County. The Wasco County Extension is an arm of the Oregon State University Extension Service, which serves a four county region of north-central Oregon.

Project:

Hannah Fuller served as the Community Food Systems Coordinator for the Oregon State University Wasco County Extension Service. Hannah played an integral role in connecting OSU and partner agencies including Gorge Grown Food Network, The Blue Zones Project, North Central Public Health District, and Oregon Food Bank. Duties included program management, assessment, community building, volunteer recruitment, teaching, and outreach. Main focus areas included providing nutrition education, engaging volunteers of the Food Hero Volunteer Training program, conducting a School Physical Activity and Nutrition Environment Tool (SPAN-ET) Evaluation in local schools, serving as a liaison between OSU Extension and the Food Security Coalition, developing gardening partnerships, providing support for Mid-Columbia Medical Center’s Food for Life program, and developing a reports to share project aims, outcomes, and recommendations with other partners.
