Meet Jake Long (he/him/his):
Jake graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Accounting. He has worked in both corporate finance and in a rural school in Colorado, through another AmeriCorps program. Jake is hoping to use his past business experience to explore economic development and have a positive impact in his community. Outside of work, Jake enjoys snowboarding, surfing, practicing yoga, and playing chess.
Community and Organization:
Jake will be based out of Roseburg and will be serving with CCD Business Development Corporation, focused on economic development and rural resiliency. CCD serves as the Economic Development District servicing Coos, Curry, and Douglas. CCD’s mission is to provide encourage economic development and they just celebrated their 50th year anniversary.
Douglas county is the largest and most populous of the three counties served by CCD. The vast number of natural resources drives both the economic and recreational activities. Douglas county’s top industry is timber, and they also have a large farming community, with creameries, farmland, and vineyards. Coos and Curry counties make up the Southern Oregon coast and are known for their tourism and unique coastline.
Project:
Jake will serve Coos, Curry, and Douglas counties with CCD as the Economic Recovery Specialist. He will be working on the Economic Recovery Initiative, which is a project focused on creating actionable items that will help mitigate the effects of economic shocks. Jake will be working on the action stage of the ERI that implements solutions to the issues identified by a previous RARE.
