Meet Patrick Holzman (he/him/his):

Patrick was born and raised on the northside of Chicago a few blocks away from Lake Michigan. He went to school in Minnesota where he studied Environmental Studies and Management. Patrick loves the city of Chicago and the Midwest as a whole but he is more than excited to explore the nature of the Pacific Northwest. He loves photography and hiking, and he hopes to combine those two passions while here in Oregon and take photos of the diverse range of wildlife. He is interested in city and regional planning where he hopes to develop his professional skills and apply them in a meaningful way.

Community and Organization:

Patrick is serving in Pendleton, Oregon and will be working with the city of Pendleton. Pendleton is in the northeastern part of Oregon at the foothills of the Blue Mountains and sits next to the Umatilla river. The city has a vibrant economy mainly based on agriculture, woolen mills, trade, and tourism. Pendleton is a historical city where one can explore the fascinating history of Eastern Oregon through the city’s architecture. Additionally, Pendleton is known for its hosting of the “Pendleton Round-Up” that happens annually in September. Pendleton is also famous for their underground tours and the Pendleton woolen mill.

Project:

This year Patrick will be assisting the city in preserving historical buildings by updating the city’s historical building inventory and conducting research in order to provide historical context. He will be working with community members in applying for grants that are offered by the city to renovate and preserve homes in the area. Additionally, Patrick will be assisting the Pendleton Development Commission in expanding housing by working with their second story grant program. To increase the economic vitality of Pendleton it is his job to communicate these programs to the community and assist in improving the quality and quantity of housing.
