Meet Sienna Fitzpatrick:
Sienna spent last year in the RARE program serving Southern Oregon, and naturally fell in love with the beauty, opportunity, and challenges of this great state. In the last year, Sienna realized her passion for community building and decided to pursue a new project through RARE that would help her explore that career area, which lead her to Central Oregon. Sienna’s background is in environmental policy, science, Spanish, and extensive volunteer experiences, positioning her to see the big picture and the “story” behind every project she works on. In her free time, Sienna enjoys photography, traveling, and spending time with loved ones.
Community and Organization:
The Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) is an intermediary governmental body based in Bend that serves the Central Oregon region (Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook Counties and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs). Designated in 1972 as a Council of Governments, COIC provides services in employment and training, alternative high school education, business loans, transportation, regional planning, natural resource management, natural disasters and emergency management, and community and economic development. COIC is non-regulatory and has no tax base, and is funded through grants, contracts, and agreements with other agencies and nonprofits. Sienna works in the Community and Economic Development department (CED), which provides services to many rural communities in the region, including Culver, La Pine, Madras, Metolius, Prineville, Redmond, and Sisters. She will also be supporting projects with Jefferson and Deschutes Counties, as well as regional collaboration and planning processes.
Project:
Sienna served as the Community Development Specialist for CED, supporting the Rural CED Program in everything from Downtown Revitalization to Master Parks Plan updates. Sienna also supported Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan updates for Jefferson and Deschutes Counties; a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) update for COIC; and miscellaneous work in food systems and community facilitation.
