Environmental and Sustainability Planning

What is Environmental and Sustainability Planning?

Oregon’s unique natural resources and public spaces are important for local economies, healthy environments and quality of life. Unfortunately, communities are threatened by numerous hazards, including chronic floods and storms, potentially catastrophic earthquakes and tsunamis, wildfires, finite energy resources, and a climate uncertain future.

The RARE Program, through our members, work with communities to develop strategies for sustainable use and conservation of natural resources as well as to plan and prepare for hazards, reducing their impacts, and speeding recovery.

Examples include:

  • Coordinating an array of land conservation and enhancement projects
  • Collaborating with planners and residents to help rebuild wildfire-affected communities
  • Creating a rural solar outreach strategy
  • Developing a Climate Action Plan for regional tourism organizations
