Meet Alex Alonso Gudiño (He/Him):

Alex Alonso grew up in Aloha, Oregon, a Census designated, unincorporated area of Washington County. He earned his B.A. in Global Studies and Spanish from the University of Oregon. His previous work experience include the following occupations: GANAS program co-coordinator for Kelly Middle School in North Eugene; administrative assistant for The University of Oregon Dining Services Hiring Team; conducting a sidewalk quality inventory for the City of Eugene, and much more. His passion for public service stems from his personal experience growing up in an area that was often forgotten in the planning process.

Community and Organization:

Alex is a first year RARE serving with the non-profit NeighborWorks Umpqua, which is based out of Roseburg, Oregon. NeighborWorks is a community based organization dedicated to housing and financial stabilization. The organization serves Coos, Curry, Douglas, and Josephine Counties. While the organization hopes to help residents with short term solutions, it is committed to empowering residents to survive and thrive in the face of adversity.

Projects:

Alex is serving with NeighborWorks Umpqua (NWU) in Roseburg, Oregon, by helping to build capacity in the Home Rehabilitation Department. He is leading NWU’s new No Cost Ductless Heat Pump Installation program. NeighborWorks is partnering with Energy Trust of Oregon to help low income families transition to more energy efficient ductless heat pumps. Alex is spearheading the initiative by conducting outreach to priority groups at community events and creating informational promotions via print, website, and social media. In doing so, he will help inform families about existing incentives and programs that will benefit them. As the project manager, Alex will conduct home energy assessments and coordinate with contractors to oversee the successful implementation of the heat pumps. In addition, Alex will be monitoring the energy usage at five NWU properties and implement strategies to improve the properties’ energy efficiency.
