Meet Alice Jones (she/her):

Alice graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s of Global Studies and a minor in Sustainability. Alice is passionate about convening people with diverse perspectives and encouraging their uniqueness to shine through. This is her second year in the RARE program, which speaks to her fondness and connection to the community that she serves. Alice enjoys planning fun trips with friends, frequenting local coffee and book shops, playing pickleball and badminton, taking pictures of animals, and cooking unexpected meals.

Community and Organization:

Josephine County is found in Southwest Oregon, along with the gorgeous Rogue, Illinois, and Applegate rivers. A strong community of farmers, creatives, advocates, and leaders reside here and continue to lift the community up. With the Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve, Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest, and stunning trails galore, Alice counts herself as beyond lucky to call this community her home. The organization that she is working with, Visit Grants Pass, is the destination marketing organization for the City of Grants Pass and the greater Josephine County. The organization recognizes the importance of the many fabulous visitor experiences that exist in the greater Josephine County region and works to support and market those assets as well.

Project:

Alice will add capacity to several economic development and outdoor recreation projects in the county. Along with a committee of dedicated community leaders, she will support the development of a Main Street Grants Pass and continue the development of Main Street Cave Junction. She will spearhead the design and installation of interpretive signage at the beautiful Rough & Ready Botanical Wayside in Cave Junction. Another project she is working on is an alternative lodging feasibility study and toolkit for the county. Lastly, she will provide marketing and resource support through listening sessions and marketing workshops. Alice is excited for the opportunity to learn more about sustainable tourism and to grow as a community organizer, all while continuing to explore the wondrous state of Oregon.
