Meet Nik Ramstad (he/him):

Nik comes to Oregon from Milwaukee, WI, where he was in a master’s program for urban and regional planning. He enjoyed his time in school, but needed to experience what life was like as a planner before finishing the last year of his degree – which is how he ended up in RARE! Outside of school or work, Nik can be found trail running, climbing, or lazing about outside. He’s excited to get a feel for what planners do, and to make a positive impact with his organization!

Community and Organization:

Roseburg lays in the Umpqua River Valley and is the most populous city in Douglas County. While Roseburg is small, the city holds the county seat, boasts a modest yet delightful downtown, and is home to more than 30 wineries. Nicknamed the timber capital of the nation, Roseburg got its start with the growing lumber industry in the 1930s. The Community Development Department of Roseburg works to plan for the future needs of the community while satisfying its current needs, by facilitating site development and historic preservation.

Project:

Nik is helping the City of Roseburg Community Development Department manage their daily workflow via processing site review applications, processing land use applications, assisting the public with zoning inquiries, and working on long range projects as they come up. Potential long range projects include working on an urban growth boundary swap, legislative code amendments, and a conditional use permit application to create mountain bike trails in county owned land.
