Meet Taylor Evans:

Taylor majored in Public Health at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is interested and passionate about volunteerism, martial arts, rural communities, food, and travel. Taylor hopes to work in the non-profit sector in the future and is excited to use her skills to work alongside rural communities in Oregon.

Community and Organization:

The City of Monroe, nestled in the foothills of the Coast Range, is conveniently positioned in the mid-Willamette Valley between Corvallis (with Oregon State University) to the north and Eugene (with the University of Oregon) to the south. Originally founded as a lumber mill town in the mid-1800s, this unique location offers diverse opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, fishing on the Alsea River, sports and other programs associated with OSU or UO, or even wine tasting at local vineyards.

Project:

As the Community Development Coordinator for the City of Monroe, Taylor Evans will actively support and coordinate local organizations focused on community revitalization. Taylor will develop a strong understanding of planning processes (land use, transportation, environmental), small city government, destination development, public outreach & education, and partnership development. She will have the opportunity to complete chapters of the City’s Comprehensive Plan update, collaborate with Main Street Program volunteers, including the planning of a wine festival, work with the local Watershed Council and the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a vision for the Riverside District, and implement TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) water quality plans.
